Making Small Changes

The reason my health coaching method has worked for so many people is that we make small changes and implement them over time until they become habit. Then we build on those.

Sometimes with all of the information we are seeing, hearing, learning on a daily basis it is easy to become overwhelmed and either do it all totally hardcore, or throw in the towel and give up.

There is a third way.

I advocate for making small changes, one at a time, until they stick.
Here 4 simple ideas you can try this week to better your health, and the health of your family.
Drink more water.
Take off your shoes at the door.
Go to bed before 10:30PM (especially if you’re trying to conceive.
Get rid of the plastic in your home.

Ask Holly: How Do I Avoid Stretch Marks?

Hi Holly- I’m 15 weeks pregnant with my first child, and I really don’t want to have stretch marks on my belly. Can you recommend something for me to use so avoid getting them? Thank you-
April H.
Little Rock, AR

Hi April-
I was so worried about this problem too, since I have bad stretch marks on my legs from growing so quickly in middle school! It’s important to stay hydrated and get lots of omega 3 fatty acids from walnuts, fish oil. etc. I also religiously slathered on some sort of oil or balm every single night. I’m happy to report that I didn’t get a single stretch mark!

Here are 3 types I really like:

  • Earth Mama Angel Baby LLC.
  • Weleda’s Pregnancy Body Oil- search for it at Top Brand Vitamins– they have it for the best price I’ve seen
  • Little Moon Essentials Beautiful Belly Butter I love everything on this site- the owner, Laura is very passionate  about what she does and it shows! and she offers free shipping on orders over $15

Water, Water Everywhere

All this rain in NYC is making me think about one of my favorite health tips- one that can cure a variety of ailments from morning sickness to headaches to kidney stones- the list goes on. Drink more water!
However, now that we know about the danger of Bisphenol-A, which is linked to birth defects, breast cancer and obesity amongst other things, many people are confused about plastic bottles. Solution? Continue reading Water, Water Everywhere

Water

Drink more water! Unless your drinking at least 8 glasses a day (more if your pregnant, breastfeeding or exercise frequently), you’re not drinking enough. Better yet, I recommend drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces, so if you weigh 130 pounds, drink 65 ounces of water. Almost all health problems from infertility (because of hormone imbalance) to high cholesterol to cancer can benefit from this simple step. When you opt for water, chances are you’re replacing sugary drinks, artificially sweetened soft drinks, or caffeinated beverages- all detrimental to your health. Your body is 65% water, and your brain is 85% water and water is needed for every bodily function. Here’s a fact that should make you reach for a glass: Continue reading Water
