All this rain in NYC is making me think about one of my favorite health tips- one that can cure a variety of ailments from morning sickness to headaches to kidney stones- the list goes on. Drink more water!
However, now that we know about the danger of Bisphenol-A, which is linked to birth defects, breast cancer and obesity amongst other things, many people are confused about plastic bottles. Solution? Continue reading Water, Water Everywhere

Acupuncture

Believe what you will about acupuncture, but many people, including medical doctors, are advising women who are having a hard time conceiving to try it.  The research that has been done is specifically on acupuncture in conjunction with IVF, and you can read an article that was in the LA Times about it here.  I know many women who tried for many years to get pregnant and then started acupuncture treatments and within a few cycles, they were pregnant.  This is all the scientific evidence they need to be convinced that it works.  Really, what do you have to lose?  If you are afraid of needles, don’t let that stop you.  It’s actually very cool, in a weird relaxing sort of way,  to be laying there with all of these pins sticking out of you.  It doesn’t hurt at all, or even come remotely close to getting a shot or having blood taken.  If you’re interested in knowing why it works, Continue reading Acupuncture

Is Your Wheat Toast to Blame for Infertility?

Many women who are having a hard time getting pregnant have no idea why. In fact, up to 8% of infertile couples have unexplained infertility. If this describes you, you might have a gluten sensitivity. Gluten is the protein found in wheat, rye, barley and oats, and it’s estimated that 1 in 133 Americans are sensitive to it. It would be worth you and your partner getting tested for it, which is called celiac disease in the medical community. Or, why don’t you just try cutting these things out of your diet for a few cycles, and see what happens! It’s definitely worth a shot and It’s easier than it sounds, because you can find many great foods completely free of gluten. I like the brown rice pasta by Soy Joy and the gluten free chocolate chip cookies by City Girl Country Girl.

Gluten free living isn’t a cupcake-free life.  Check out BabyCakes if you live in NYC, and if you don’t, they just released their cookbook full of secrets! Here’s a sample recipe for Big Apple Brownies : Continue reading Is Your Wheat Toast to Blame for Infertility?
