Fab Fall Food

As we welcome the new fall season, we have a new grocery list to shop from!

Fall Grocery List

It’s very important to eat food that is naturally available during this season to give your body optimal nutrition.

One of my favorites ways to incorporate lots of healthy fall veggies is by making soup. I love “one pot meals” because there’s less cleanup involved, they are easy to store and reheat for another meal, and it’s a great way to get your toddler to eat vegetables. Not to mention they warm up the bones!

Here are some links to great soup recipes:

Arnica for Bruises

I have a toddler who runs and climbs and dances and jumps and copies everything his 4 year old cousin does- which means I have a toddler with lots of bruises.

Enter Arnica Montana- a flowering plant native to the mountains of Europe and Siberia that has been used medicinally since the 1500s.

The petals and roots contain helanalin and thymol derivatives which are anti-inflammatory and have been proven more effective than ibuprofen when used topically on the skin.

Arnica also acts as a vasodilator which means the small capillaries under the skin are widened. This increased blood flow to the area aids the healing process by removing other blood and fluid accumulation- almost like an internal irrigation of the wound.

The result? Bumps and bruises vanish in no time! I always have a bottle of Arnica on me at all times. The one we use is in a base of organic olive oil, but it comes in gels, sprays and creams also. Here is the kind we use:

Just last week, that 4 year old cousin smashed her finger in the door. It immediately turned purple and looked terrible- everyone thought she would lose a fingernail. We put arnica oil on it generously, and by the next day it was looking so much better. I love it when we use a natural remedy that works and we have witnesses!

Please note: Arnica should not be used on broken skin. My favorite topical ointment for cuts and scrapes is Angel Baby Bottom Balm (I just saw that it’s on sale right now!) This is always in my diaper bag too- as it can be used as a diaper cream, or for any type of first aid.

Whew- life with a toddler is tough!

Popsicles For Teething

It’s the end of summer, and I am faced with lots of leftover watermelon, days that are still very hot, and a toddler who is cutting his 2 year molars.

What’s a mom to do?

Make popsicles, of course!

Watermelon Chamomile Toddler Teething Pops

Puree 4 cups seedless watermelon with 1/4 cup chamomile tea, freeze in BPA-Free popsicle molds*, and voila! A tasty treat that also soothes those aching gums.

Birthday Boy!

I have a two year old.

And yes, it feels like I just woke up and suddenly “I have a two year old.”
I don’t want to sound too sentimental because I know it feels the same when you have a 5 year old or a 12 year old or an 18 year old (and perhaps even a 33 year old!) And after all, he is only 2.

But somehow, someway when I wasn’t looking we went from this:

To this:

And man it flew by.

As I peeked in on him during his nap on his birthday, memories of the day he was born came flooding back to me.

And then I thought about how little I knew on that day.

I had no idea how hard it would be or how truly exhausted I would become or how naive I had been about children before I had one of my own.  (Let’s just say people who don’t have children should never give child rearing advice of any kind!)

I had no idea how much I time I would spend looking at bugs or how excited I would get to see a cement truck or how many hours I would spend at the playground.

I had no idea how fast I could clean my house, how much I could do with only one hand (or my feet!) how much patience I needed and how fast my reflexes would become.

I had no idea what on earth I had done with all of my time before he was born or why I actually chose to stay up all night in my early twenties or how I even functioned then.

I had no idea how easy I had it at a restaurant, or on a car ride or at the grocery store.

I had no idea I would go days without a shower and how luxurious a bubble bath (alone) truly was.

But more than anything else, I truly had no idea how much joy and love and happiness one little tiny person could add to my life.

Happy Birthday to my sweet baby boy.

We’ve only just begun.

Free Shipping at Tea Collection

One of my favorite clothing lines for babies and children is Tea Collection.

A friend gave me an adorable outfit before I had my baby, and I was hooked. I then borrowed her catalogs and poured over them picking out what I would buy depending on whether I had a boy or a girl. I got my baby boy a full wardrobe- my favorite being the cutest pin striped pants he wore from 3-6 months. He was such a handsome little man!

These clothes are super soft and sturdy and obviously made well because they come out of the washing machine looking new.

They are offering a one day free shipping sale TODAY- in time for back to school.

So head over to Tea Collection! If you haven’t discovered them yet, you’re in for a treat!
