Another Reason to Go Organic

Eat organically grown food for the health of your baby!  Here is an article about the presence of hazardous chemicals, including pesticides, present in umbilical cord blood.  The low level of exposure to toxins in utero is linked to birth defects, developmental disorders and chronic diseases.  Join a CSA, shop the farmer’s market, and vote with your dollar by buying organic food.

Best Outdoor Blanket Ever!

We went to Central Park almost every single day this summer- and on the days we weren’t there, we were on our roof deck sitting in the grass giving our baby fresh air and tummy time (which over the course of the summer progressed into full on walking- it happens so fast!)  Our number one priority before we left the house was grabbing the JJ Cole Essentials Blanket.

I don’t think you can truly appreciate how great this blanket is until you are sitting on grass that has been recently watered, and while all of your friends and their babies are sitting on regular blankets and getting soaked, you’re totally dry.

It is silky soft, waterproof, and a good size, so it keeps the whole family comfortable.  Continue reading Best Outdoor Blanket Ever!

Army of Women

Dr. Susan Love and Avon have teamed up on a project called Army of Women, Going Beyond a Cure.  I saw her on the Today Show this morning and she made some great points- we have spent over 4 billion dollars on breast cancer research, and still have no idea why it’s caused.  She said when she was in residency 30 years ago, if a woman had an abnormal pap smear they did an immediate hysterectomy.  Whoa- she was trying to illustrate the point that doctors don’t always know how to treat diseases they don’t understand, and she feels that breast cancer is one of them.  Dr. Love said when women are diagnosed with breast cancer, they aren’t asked any questions about environmental exposures, lifestyle, etc. and that 80% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have done everything right- they don’t smoke, don’t drink, are a healthy weight, etc.  so we’re obviously missing something, and it’s time to ask the questions.   She and Avon have set out to find the cause so we can get rid of this insidious disease.  Their goal:

  • To recruit one million healthy women of every age and ethnicity, including breast cancer survivors and women at high-risk for the disease, to partner with breast cancer researchers and directly participate in the research that will eradicate breast cancer once and for all.
  • To challenge the scientific community to expand its current focus to include breast cancer prevention research conducted on healthy women.

Join us in this movement that will take us beyond a cure by creating new opportunities to study what causes breast cancer—and how to prevent it.

I strongly encourage you to go to this website and volunteer to participate in these studies!!!  Spread the word and recruit your friends, sisters, moms, daughters, aunts, cousins- every woman you know!!!
